The Shack

This book gave me opportunities to enjoy mind blowing fireworks, several aha! moments and a sense of deep cleansing and healing. Here is a list of random thoughts that spilled out while reading...

  • God is quite fond of you. He is never disappointed since he knows the end from the beginning and is never surprised by the choices you make.
  • Brokenness and a senseless need for Independence... are at the root of many of our own failing relationships.
  • R-e-l-a-t-i-o-n-s-h-i-p-s are part of life's most important moments and treasures. Might as well work on those and enjoy life while you are at it.
  • Is God present when evil happens?
  • God's love does not depend on circumstances, performance, efforts. His love helps me deal with my own disappointments, hurts, losses... OK, we know the theory... but are we convinced of these in the midst of tragedy and hardships?
  • This book is not so much about explaining the Trinity as it is helping us trust a God who is able to work everything for good and chooses to reveal himself as an attentive and steadfast father, a tender mother.. with a questionable sense of humor, an unpredictable wind, a faithful brother and friend...
  • This book is a vivid parable, putting color on concepts that had been stuck in my head in black and white for too long and are slowly making their way to my heart.
  • How many times does our understanding of God's love, mercy and justice crumble under the weight of sin and hardships of everyday life. I walked away from this book with a clearer understanding of God's love for me, forgiveness, grace...
If some of those thoughts leave you with a head-tilting, quizzical feeling, well... read the book and it will make more sense. The few hours you'll need to finish it will be well worth it.

Enjoy,
Jollygreen
